Hi-di-ho,
I’m starting a new feature here.
One really positive thing about living where I do is that there are lots of older trees with interesting shapes. Perhaps it sounds odd, but I have often noticed the branch arrangements (for lack of a better word) on many of the trees in my neighborhood, and found them aesthetically pleasing.
Recently I went out for a walk and took some pictures of these trees.
I’ll be sporadically posting these pictures, along with very simple line drawings where I’ll attempt to capture the essence of the tree in a very simple style — I’m going for the simplicity one might find in a street sign.
Anyways, here’s the first tree/sign.

I am also a branch connoisseur. I actually like it when all of the leaves fall off of the branches and all I’m left with is sticks. When I was a kid, I frequently drew pictures of naked trees. I’m handy to have around because I actually notice when trees need to be trimmed.

dc, hopefully the tree isn’t upset, as I painted it without leaves.
ten s, I thought about waiting until the leaves fell off before I took the pictures, but I preferred to have the original pictures to be of the trees with leaves, since we are heading into another potentially dreary Chicago winter.
Sparky and I were talking about branch arragnement yesterday on our daily walk. The synchronicity is scary.

My girlfriend, who has forsaken her blog for her Flickr page, is taking a picture of the same tree by our house everyday for a year. It’s kinda cool.

And we have a girl on my team that is Swedish and has long blonde braids, so we call her HeidiHo.

chris, that sounds like a a nice series! Is she trying to take a pic from the same location every day? Does she have a tripod she just leaves in one place?
