  1. That makes sense. When I saw him, he was in the pack that was in a pace to finish in around 5 hours.

I was sweating buckets just standing there waiting to see him. The New York Times reported that this was the hottest day that the Chicago Marathon has ever been run on, breaking a record that was set in 1979. I hope Bubs is enjoying himself somewhere cool, with a glass of something cold!

  2. I made it to somewhere between mile 21 and 22 when we were told that the race had been ended and we were instructed to walk and not run. I finished the last 4-5 miles walking.

I’ve never seen so many people taken away in ambulances at a race before, and so many people dropping out and puking. It was tough.

Thanks for posting the results! Interestingly enough, my first marathon in 1999 I finished at 5:06 and had horrible knee problems. It’s funny that this time I was just a little slower than that, AFTER WALKING THE LAST 4.% MILES.

My plan had been to improve on my 4:48 time in 2004, maybe to even break 4:30. That went out the window today.

  3. Bubs, the voice in my head that was reading your comments was oddly out of breath. I talked to a buddy of mine in Chicago. He said it was miserably hot and humid today. Big congrats on actually finishing! That’s huge!
