A Star Is Born

If you have a moment, say “Hi!” to Cowboy The Cat.

The name alone should peak your interest.

I wish that interesting-blog-intermingling happened more often, but I’ll take what I can get.

It’s always a treat when you find an interesting agendaneer, or they find you, and you have a mutual appreciation for the other’s writings.

He somehow found me, and then I found him. It’s like Love Story, without the romance or incurable disease!

I heart your blog (agenda), Cowboy the Cat!

Another Knock-Knock Joke, And Some Observations

A couple months ago, I posted a knock-knock joke from my daughter.

I have now one to share from my eldest son (four years old). It’s not quite as ribald, but I like it.

******
Son: Knock knock.
Me: Who’s there?
Son: Nobody.
Me: Nobody who?
Son: Somebody.
******

Here’s a few more random observations about the kids.

1. I recently overheard my eldest son singing “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” to himself, but for some reason he was singing it as “take me out to the ball stretch”.

2. A couple doors down some people have a stuffed Frankenstein on their front porch, sitting in a chair. My kids unhumorously call it “Franken Einstein” (I think I might have pointed out a picture of Albert Einstein to them at some point).

3. My four-year old daughter has recently learned about the Incredible Hulk, and is now currently obsessed with *being* the Hulk. I recently taught her the line “Don’t make me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.”, which she is now fond of saying before she starts stomping around the house.

All the above is proof why kids are so much better than adults. It’s not even close, people.

If I Were A Writer For The Onion

If I were a writer for The Onion, you bet I would have suggested a funny story revolving around the Lolcat phenomenon. From what I can tell with my limited abilities using Google, this trend has not yet been skewered by them.

My article would have been something like “Majority of US cats now being raised for LOL pictures”.

The piece that I would have written in The Onion would have not been very funny, honestly. And, most likely, I would be fired after a few weeks, when they realized I was bereft of ideas that matched The Onion’s particular niche of comedy.

Before being fired, I would attempt to transition to a position in their non-funny but nevertheless stellar site A.V. Club. I would be entrusted to write a review about a new album by Sleater-Kinney. Instead of listening to the album, I’d procrastinate. At the last minute, I’d try and get my mom to write my album review for me, but she would refuse.

My editor at the A.V. Club would regrettably fire me for providing a hacked-up piece of piffle about Sleater-Kinney.

I’d have one last chance working in the ad department, but I’d accidentally (and unintentionally) say something extremely offensive about Burton-Marsteller, and whammo! Fired.

I’d be so angry, on my last day I’d run around with my pants off, peeing on anyone and anything I could get near.

Security would be called, and I would be sent to jail for being a weenie waver (for the record, I would be getting no sexual gratification from peeing on The Onion’s staff and property).

So, maybe it’s best for me not to be a writer at The Onion. And it had started out with such promise!

Announcing A Short, Sweet Monkey Mix

Oh, golly.

We have gone a little crazy in recent volumes of the Green Monkey Music Project.

Can’t Wait For Halloween had a whopping ten participants and fifty songs, while Geography Pop Quiz had nine participants with over sixty songs.

For this, Volume 9, we’re going to have a mix with only six participants, and less than thirty songs.

Here’s how it works. This mix will be called ABC.

Each participant will have letters of the alphabet assigned to them. The only requirement on the participants is that they must provide a song for each letter they are responsible for. The first word in the song must begin with that letter. For example, if you are responsible for the letter “W”, the song “Waiting On A Friend” would be valid, but “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” would *not* be valid.

Okay, so how does a participant sign up for a group of letters? Well, you pick one of the shapes to the left. I have already randomly assigned letters to the shapes. If a shape has already been picked by someone else, you can’t pick it.

I won’t tell you which letters belong to which shapes, but I will tell you how the letters are broken down:

A-E
F-O
P-T
U-Y
Z

Yes, there will be one participant that has one only letter they will be responsible for — Z!

This mix has five open slots. Each participant has to pick a shape when they sign up for the mix. I’ll be taking the sixth slot. I will take whatever shape is left after the five participants have chosen theirs.

I’ll publish the key tying shapes to letters after we get a full number of participants on the mix (if you want to know what letters you got before the mix fills up, I can email the shape/letter key to you).

This mix has everything! The thrill of chance! The magic of the alphabet! And it’s not that long!

So, sign up, already!

UPDATE!

We have our participants!

Beth! (Pink parallelogram)
J.D.! (Blue Circle)
Barbara! (Green Triangle)
Tim! (Orange Star)
Dr Monkey Von Monkerstein! (Red Square)
Splotchy! (Yellow Oval)

Participants, here are your letters! Since übermixologist Beth got short-changed on the number of selections, I said she could still do five songs, provided they all start with the letter “Z” (don’t worry, she will have *no* problem coming up with the songs).

Just post your song selections as a comment on this post.

You Call That A Flag? That’s Not A Flag

I see that Sleestak, the part-time patriot over at Lady, That’s My Skull, is making a feeble attempt at showing his support for the red, white and blue.

Are we supposed to believe a puny pin worn on the lapel conveys support for this great nation of ours?

When the iSplotchy makes a patriotic statement, it’s with a capital ‘P’ and an italicized, bolded capital ‘S’.

Behold!

Vote iSplotchy for President in 2008 — the only candidate with an enormous flag sticking out of its pipe.

Presenting the Geography Pop Quiz Mix!

Volume 8 of the Green Monkey Music Project has been completed, and is available for download!

If the participants of this mix want to discuss their own selections, please feel free to do so! We’ll put a pointer on this post if you end up posting about it on your own blog (or you could always just add comments here, I suppose).
