A bowling alley a couple miles from my house, the Broadview Bowl, closed back in 2007.
Recently, the “CLOSED” message on its marquee lost a letter.
What’s left on the sign is bad English that is somehow still appropriate, and which carries a strange sense of melancholy.
Reminds me of a church near my home that had a letter fall of their outdoor sign last Easter. It said “Chris Is Risen.” And me without my camera!!!
(I meant the church had a letter fall from their sign — not my home that had a letter fall off a sign. Sorry, it’s too late for me to be paying attention to grammatical rules.)
I hear an announcer’s voice going on about how they “losed their lease, everything must go!” when I read that.
That is a sad-looking place, losed or not.
It’s rather glorious in its patheticness. Probably the best thing I have seen today.
