A Surprised Woman Working Overtime

I’m a regular reader of Lotsa ‘Splainin’ 2 Do, celebrated blog of the illustrious Matty Boy.

One of his entertaining recurring features is They Wouldn’t Believe Me&trade.

The last several times he’s published this feature he’s used a graphically striking picture of a surprised woman against a yellow background:

For lunch today I grabbed something from my company’s cafeteria to bring back to my desk. As I was waiting to get my food, I glanced around and saw some “health” pamphlets arranged against a wall. One pamphlet immediately drew my attention. I had to pick it up and take it home:

I tell you, some of my most cherished moments in life are seeing things like this. There’s some stock photo of a surprised woman floating around, which a health pamphleteer took and shoved an enormous image of food in front of. This is golden to me, people. GOLDEN.

I’m so happy with this discovery I am making a surprised woman with food composite image in Matty Boy’s honor.

Say, You’re Not That One Monkey, Disguising Yourself With Glasses, Are You?

What’s Going On In .nl?

Let’s visit with another domain name extension. This time we’ll be visiting the pages of the Netherlands (.nl).

I’m going to be linking to pages that are in the English language. Please realize that whatever I’m reading might be tailored for an English-reading audience.

So what’s going on in the Netherlands?

Just Some Guys From Queens

Did you know that the fictional comic book character Peter Parker, who would later become Spider-Man, grew up in Forest Hills, a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens?

Did you know that the punk group the Ramones were from that same neighborhood in Queens?

Did you know that the Ramones covered the theme song from the 1960’s Spider-Man cartoon?

Well, you do now.

USB Face

When I was a kid I used to always see images of faces in my surroundings. The closest term I have found to describe this phenomenon is pareidolia. It doesn’t happen to me as much as it used to, but every once in a while I’ll see one.

Tim has a nifty little set of photos on his photography page of everyday objects that appear to have faces.

Today I happened to glimpse the USB end of my iPod connector cable and saw a face looking at me.

So here it is. For some reason, I think the cable looks very pleased with itself — maybe because it’s proud of the bitchin’ pitchfork t-shirt it’s sporting.

What’s Going On In .cu?

Hey, let’s visit with another domain name extension. This time we’ll be visiting the pages of Cuba (.cu).

I’m going to be linking to pages that are in the English language. Please realize that whatever I’m reading might be tailored for an English-reading audience. If I wasn’t estúpido I would speak Spanish and be able to read a lot more pages in their domain.

Oh well. Soy estúpido.

One thing I noticed about Cuban webpages is that they were quite slow to load. I’m not sure for the reason of this. If anyone not in the US wants to try and visit some Cuban pages, let me know if it’s any faster, wouldja?

So what’s on Cuban websites?
